Coffee Processing Types
- Dry Processed Coffee - Dry process coffee is a method for taking the fruit from the tree to an exportable green bean. The whole intact coffee cherry is dried in the sun with the green bean inside. Later it is hulled out of the dried skin and parchment layers to reveal the dry green bean. This method usually produces a more rustic, fruity flavor profile. - Honey Processed Coffee - Honey process is a method in which the fresh coffee cherries are de-pulped, but allowed to dry without washing. Some of the fruit is still there, but not nearly as much as in the natural process. Most of the cherry is gone, but the remaining golden, sticky mucilage is reminiscent of honey, which is where the process gets it name. - Wet-Hull Processed Coffee - Giling Basah – translated as wethulled – is a processing method predominantly used in Indonesia. The hull and husk are removed at a greater moisture level and it requires a special machine strong enough to handle this type of processing. This method is utilized in very humid environments. Wet hulled beans have a bluish tint. Source: https://gimmecoffee.com/news/coffee-processing-washed-natural-honey-wet-hulled-whats-the-difference/
- Wet Processed Coffee - In the wet process, the fruit covering the seeds/beans is removed before they are dried. Coffee processed by the wet method is called wet processed or washed coffee. The wet method requires the use of specific equipment and substantial quantities of water. Source: https://coffee.fandom.com/wiki/Wet_process
